Chromebook: Set Up Personal Device for GHO Use for Scholars

Introduction

For Scholars using a personal Chromebook device (not a GHO-issue Chromebook), the Chromebook device will need a specific setup to access necessary platforms. 

Scholars will need to log into the device itself using their Great Hearts Online account (@GreatHeartsOnline.org). This account is a Google Workspace account and although it does not end in @gmail.com, will still function as a Google account.

Initial Set Up

New Chromebook Device

If you are setting up your personal Chromebook for the first time, you will want to first sign in using a personal account. Setting up the device using a personal account will ensure you have access to any communications or verification steps necessary. It is important to note that GHO Scholar accounts do not have email enabled. These accounts cannot send or receive emails.

Add GHO Account to an Established Device (Add GHO Account as User for the First Time)

If you have already set up your personal Chromebook device with a personal account and want to add a Scholar account to the device for school use, you will need to switch users. You can find detailed instructions on this process here.

Step 1

Start on the login screen:

Instead of logging in with your profile, click “add person” at the bottom of the screen:

Then you can log in with any Google Account: 

Please note that you cannot add the GHO account as a "child" or "work" account. The account must be added as a regular user.)

Switch Users to GHO Account (Daily Use) 

After your scholar's GHO account has been established as a user on the Chromebook device, ensure that all GHO scholar work is done while logged into the device the GHO scholar account. For any games, email, or personal activities, please make sure to log into the device using your personal login information.

Click on the Quick Settings Panel at the bottom right of your screen:
