When using a Chromebook device, you may find that your battery drains quickly. While there is a limit to a battery's longevity and life, there are things that will help save power use and extend the life of the battery.
Power Settings
GHO-Issued Devices
The power settings on GHO-issued Chromebooks are set to sleep while charging or the battery is in use and the device is idle. The device will also sleep when the lid is closed. On GHO-issued Chromebooks, these settings are managed and controlled by Great Hearts and not changeable by users.
Personal Devices
On personal Chromebook devices, you are able to manage these settings from the device's settings. To access this, open your settings and navigate to Device > Power. We recommend changing your settings to sleep when idle and when the lid is closed.
Lower Screen Brightness
The screen brightness is one of the largest consumptions of battery. Lowering this will help manage battery consumption.
You can do this by clicking the area where the time is displayed on the bottom right corner of the Chromebook and adjusting the brightness slider.
Standby Mode
When you are not using your Chromebook, put it in standby mode by closing the lid. Your work will still be there when you return, but the screen will turn off and power used will be greatly reduced.
Closing Programs
Close out of all apps, windows, and browser tabs you are not immediately using to make your Chromebook run faster and save power. Any apps left running will require more power to sustain them.
USB
Do not leave unneeded USB devices plugged into the Chromebook device. These devices draw power from your battery and cause it to drain faster.
Heat
Do not leave your Chromebook in high or low temperatures for extended periods of time. This includes in direct sunlight. This can greatly contribute to limiting the amount of power your battery can hold.
