Introduction
Google Chrome allows you to create multiple profiles, each with their own settings and bookmarks. This can be useful for separating work and personal browsing, or for sharing a computer with others.
Check Profile
To see which account you are logged into and to switch accounts, click the profile icon in the upper right-hand corner of the page:
Creating a Profile
To create a new profile in Chrome, click the three dots in the top-right corner of the browser window, then select "Settings." Under the "People" section, click "Add person." Give your new profile a name, and select an icon. While you can set up a profile up as a "Supervised user," it is important not to use this option when setting up a profile for use at Great Hearts Online.
Once you've created a new profile, you can switch between profiles by clicking the profile icon in the top-right corner of the browser window, next to the minimize button. You can also set up a shortcut key to quickly switch between profiles.
Each profile has its own set of bookmarks, extensions, and browsing history. However, if you want to share bookmarks between profiles, you can sign in to your Google account in the settings and sync your bookmarks.
Delete a Profile
If you no longer need a profile, you can delete it by going to the "People" section in Chrome's settings and clicking the "Remove" button next to the profile you want to delete.
Managing Different Profiles
Using separate profiles in Google Chrome is important for families with multiple computer users and/or anyone who uses their device for both Great Hearts Online and other activities. Organizing your activities by profile allows you to:
-
Keeping work and personal browsing separate: If you use your computer for both work and personal browsing, creating separate profiles can help you keep your work and personal browsing activity separate. This can be especially useful if you share a computer with others or if you don't want your work browsing activity to be visible to others who use the same computer.
-
Sharing a computer with others: If you share a computer with others, creating separate profiles can allow each person to have their own set of bookmarks, extensions, and browsing history. This can also be useful if you want to set up parental controls for a child's profile.
-
Testing different settings: If you're experimenting with different settings or extensions, creating a separate profile can allow you to test them without affecting your main profile. This way, you can easily switch back to your main profile if you don't like the changes you made.
-
Keeping your browsing private: Creating separate profiles can also be useful for keeping your browsing activity private. For example, you can create a profile that doesn't have your Google account signed in, which can help prevent your browsing history from being synced to your Google account.
